This program is designed to give parents a break from caring for a child who has a serious emotional disorder. According to the Utah Division of Mental Health, a family can receive up to 16 hours each month for respite care.

Wasatch Mental Health offers a couple of different programs:

  • Group Respite Care: In this program, there is a behavior tracking chart and token system that is used to help maintain appropriate behavior. These tools are also used to encourage progress with the youth's treatment goals. The program schedule includes: check-in (goal review), free time, activity, snack and check-out. Transportation is provided. There is a high staff to youth ratio, typically 1 to 2 or 1 to 3.
  • Individual Respite Care: This program is tailored to meet the needs of each family. Parents and a respite care worker meet to create a schedule that will benefit everyone involved. Transportation is provide.

Costs: There is not cost to a family with a qualifying child. A grant provides funding for the program.

Referral Procedure: Parents need to complete a Case Management referral form and select the appropriate Respite Care boxes at the bottom of the page. The form can be picked up at our Parkview location (1161 East 300 North) or our main building at WestPark (750 North Freedom Blvd.). Once the form is completed, send it to the following address:
