Preparing to Meet Your Psychiatrist This form is used to better prepare to meet with your psychiatrist. The form will help you organize your medication observations and any concerns you might have about medication actions and reactions. Youth Outpatient Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM; Fridays 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. In youth outpatient, children and families are seen for psychiatric evaluation, testing and evaluation with psychologists. They can also receive individual, group, and family therapy. We have experienced therapists who can work with issues of abuse, trauma, behavioral problems, anxiety, and depression. We also are a training site for social work and psychology interns. We use a variety of methods in working with children such as cognitive behavioral therapy, play therapy, art therapy, and sand tray therapy. Youth Case management The primary function of Youth Case Management is the coordination of services within Wasatch Mental Health and outside agencies. Case managers may provide services in a child's home, at school or in a clinical setting. For youngsters who have been released from Utah State Hospital, case managers are available to help them make the transition back into the community. Vantage Point The purpose of Vantage Point is to provide short-term shelter, counseling, and social work services to ungovernable youth ranging between 12 through 18. This includes runaways, homeless youths, and /or youth in emotional crisis. Most stays are about 48 hours but can be extended up to 14 days with parental/guardian consent when necessary.
GIANT Steps Hours: Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 3:30
p.m. August through June Contact persons: Suzanne Stevens and Karen Fairchild , 226-5437 GIANT Steps is a treatment program for children ages three years through five years who have been diagnosed with Autism. The treatment methods used include discrete trial, TEACH, and Greenspan's Floor-time, along with pre-school activities. There is a maximum enrollment of twenty-four children. This allows the program to accommodate twelve children in each treatment-room with a one-to-two or a one-to-three ratio of adult to children. One Autism Specialist, two Autism Assistants and three Autism Aides work in each treatment-room. There is, also, a case manager, a full-time social worker, and a psychiatrist available. Children from all three school districts in Utah county participate in the program. Through the school districts, children who qualify, are provided with speech therapy, occupational therapy, and/or adaptive physical education. Parent education and training is provided on a monthly basis as is a parent support group. Summer hours are 1:00 PM - 3:30 PM. One of the key services provided through Wasatch Mental
Health is STRIDE, a partial day treatment program. Social skills training
is provided for children ages 5 through 12 or kindergarten through
sixth grade. Transportation from home or school is provided as well
as transportation home in the evening. A parenting group is required
of all participants on Wednesday evening. Classroom social skill topics
include extending friendship, anger management, self-esteem, hygiene,
cooperative play, and more. SBS Program The School Based Services program provides onsite programs for children in special behavioral or emotional programs in their schools. The program covers three school districts: Alpine, Provo and Nebo. Click here for more information about the SBS program.
