Wasatch Behavioral Health offers various opportunities for students to be introduced to the fields of mental health and substance use disorder treatment. Our internship program gives interns an insider’s perspective of the behavioral health field within the Utah County and Wasatch County communities. We offer internship opportunities for the following: bachelor level, master level, SUDC, and ASUDC. Please see more information below.

- There are a limited number of master-level paid internship positions
- Undergraduate (bachelor-level) internship positions are not paid
- Enrollment in an educational program through an accredited educational institution is required to be an intern
- Passing a background check- Background Criminal Investigation (BCI) – is required
Types of Internships Offered
The primary objective of the Bachelor’s level internship program is to prepare interns for entry-level social work positions. The bachelor-level interns are expected to provide direct and indirect case management and psychosocial rehabilitation services. They will develop and implement their own service plan, and perform case management, which includes: coordinating services, assessing the need for services, linking to necessary services/resources, and providing psychosocial rehabilitation services. He/she will be expected to manage a personal caseload and maintain compliance with case documentation. The Intern will be expected to maintain professional ethics, provide services within the realm of licensure, and participate in regular supervision. A positive work attitude, strong communication skills, effective use of work time, and cooperative efforts with others are important qualities of our interns.
The Master’s level interns are expected to provide direct and indirect clinical services. They are also expected to develop, implement, and supervise client treatment planning, and perform individual, group, and family psychotherapy and behavior management. He/she will be expected to manage a personal caseload and maintain and comply with case documentation.
Interns are expected to maintain professional ethics, provide services within the realm of licensure, and participate in supervision weekly. A positive work attitude, strong communication skills, effective use of work time, and cooperative efforts with others are important qualities of our interns.
SUDC & ASUDC internships are available for those interested in pursuing a career within the substance use disorder field. SUDC (Substance Use Disorder Counseling – basic license) & ASUDC (Advanced Substance Use Disorder Counseling – advanced license) certificate earners have the opportunity to gain on-the-job experience in our Substance Use Disorder Division. They will directly work with clients in a variety of ways such as through: case management, psychoeducational individual and group treatment, and behavior management. Interns will learn of the various treatment options and community resources for those with substance use disorders and will have weekly supervision to enhance knowledge and learning in this field.

The internship program is flexible to students’ needs as we understand the workload of being a college student. Interns usually have an hour requirement provided by their school. Interns should work with their Wasatch Behavioral Health supervisor to coordinate their schedules.
